Books, Stories and Smiles: The St. Joseph’s Bookmobile is Back 2026
Each summer, we bring our Bookmobile to communities all across South Dakota, sharing free reading materials for every age and interest. You’ll find Native American books by Native American authors, and everyone who visits the Bookmobile can pick out a book to take home.
When you stop by the Bookmobile, you can also meet our Alumni Relations staff. It’s a great chance to catch up, share memories, and connect with us for any support you might need.
Rising Eagle Day Camp
St. Joseph’s Indian School does not sit idle during the summer months. At St. Joseph’s Rising Eagle Day Camp, Lakota children from Lower Brule and Crow Creek Reservations take part in cultural arts and crafts, eat nutritious meals and thrive in a setting where kids can just be kids! Every day, camp counselors drive a 60-mile roundtrip to pick up Native American children who yearn to have fun, learn and form new friendships . . . all in a safe environment and at no charge.
St Joesph’s Powwow
The St. Joseph’s Indian School Powwow is a special day where families, students, and visitors come together to celebrate Native American culture and tradition. Young dancers proudly share their talents through colorful regalia, traditional dances, and the steady beat of the drum. Whether you’re attending for the first time or returning year after year, the powwow is a welcoming event that brings people together to honor heritage, create lasting memories, and support the next generation.
