Academic Studies
Your child will have opportunities to learn, create, and explore every day at St. Joseph’s Indian School. Through our library, art, and computer programs, students build important skills, discover new interests, and express their creativity in a supportive learning environment. These enriching experiences help your child grow in confidence while preparing them for success in school and beyond.
Library
Your child will discover new stories, explore exciting topics, and build a lifelong love of reading in our library. Each visit encourages curiosity, strengthens reading and research skills, and helps students become confident, independent learners.
The library is a favorite part of the school day for many students, offering a welcoming space to read, learn, and grow. Families can also explore our library website to learn more about the resources and opportunities available to students.
Growing as Confident Readers
Your child will explore a wide variety of books, authors, illustrators, and genres while discovering what they enjoy reading most. Along the way, they’ll strengthen their reading skills, expand their imagination, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Learning to Research with Confidence
Your child will learn how to find reliable information, ask thoughtful questions, and use research to explore topics that interest them. They’ll also build the skills they need to complete school projects with confidence.
Navigating the Digital World Wisely
Your child will learn how to use information safely, ethically, and responsibly in today’s digital world. From protecting their personal information to respecting copyright and evaluating online sources, they’ll gain the skills they need to be thoughtful and responsible technology users.
Art Program
Your child will have opportunities to explore their creativity, build confidence, and express themselves through art. As they experiment with different materials, techniques, and creative ideas, they’ll strengthen problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and imagination while discovering new ways to share their unique perspective.
Throughout the school year, students also learn from professional artists through the South Dakota Arts Council’s Artists in Schools and Communities program. During these week-long artist residencies, your child may work alongside creative writers, musicians, performers, traditional artists, and visual artists, gaining hands-on experience and inspiration from professionals in a variety of art forms.
Many of the projects created during these special collaborations are featured in our Virtual Art Gallery, celebrating the creativity and talents of our students.
Computer Program
Your child will build the technology skills they need for success in school and beyond. Through hands-on learning, students gain confidence using computers to research, solve problems, create projects, and explore new ideas in a safe and supportive environment.
Our computer program helps students develop digital skills that prepare them for the future. Whether they’re learning new software, practicing keyboarding, exploring coding, or completing classroom assignments, your child will be encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and work together with classmates and teachers. By learning to use technology responsibly and creatively, students gain valuable skills they can use throughout their education and future careers.
