Joe Tyrell Becomes Dehonian Associate
Joe Tyrell, Director of Mission Integration at St. Joseph’s Indian School, has recently become a Dehonian Associate. Through this commitment with the Priests of the Sacred Heart, he has pledged to live out and promote the mission and spirituality inspired by Fr. Leo John Dehon.
As part of this journey, Joe will begin by working with the school’s Child Service Team to introduce and share Dehonian spirituality. Looking ahead to next school year, he plans to open the opportunity to other staff members at St. Joseph’s Indian School who feel called to deepen their faith and explore becoming Dehonian Associates.
Dehonian Associates are individuals who feel a connection to the spirituality of Fr. Leo Dehon and seek to live out the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their daily lives. Most are lay people, employees, volunteers, and collaborators who commit to ongoing formation through prayer, study, and community. Together, they strive to bring Christ’s love, compassion, and spirit of reconciliation into the world while sharing in the mission of the Dehonian community.
With this formation and commitment, Joe is now equipped to lead and grow a Dehonian Associates group at St. Joseph’s Indian School. Similar groups are already active in northern Mississippi, Houston, and Wisconsin, and this new effort will expand opportunities for staff to engage more deeply with the school’s mission.
