Akta Lakota Museum named a 2020 Travelers’ Choice winner and first-time recipient. With several positive reviews from across the world, the museum is also currently listed as the #2 recommended place out of 12 to visit in Chamberlain, S.D.

Located in the heart of St. Joseph’s Indian School in the town of Chamberlain, S.D., along the banks of the beautiful Missouri River, the Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center tells the unique stories and history of the Northern Plains Native American Tribes as no other museum can. Visitors find themselves connecting personally with the culture and traditions of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people through the elaborate exhibits and interactive programs.

“Winning the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award for Experiences is a true source of pride for the entire organization, and we’d like to thank all of our guests who took the time to visit and complete a review,” said Museum Director Dixie Thompson.

As stated on their website, “Tripadvisor gives a Travelers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions, and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travelers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.”
