Type of Physical Activities
Athletics help students stay active, build confidence and develop important life skills like teamwork, leadership and perseverance. Whether they’re learning a new sport or competing with classmates and neighboring schools, students have opportunities to grow, make lasting friendships and have fun in a supportive environment.
Sports for Every Interest
Archery
Students in grades 4–12 build focus, patience and precision while practicing during the winter months. Archers also have the opportunity to compete at the Lakota Nations Invitational and the Dakota Oyate Challenge.
Basketball – Girls
Girls in grades 4–8 develop teamwork, sportsmanship and basketball fundamentals through practices and home and away games during the early winter season.
Basketball – Boys
Boys in grades 4–8 strengthen their skills, confidence and teamwork while competing in practices and home and away games during the late winter season.
Chamberlain High School Sports
Students in our high school program can participate in a variety of athletic programs offered through Chamberlain High School, giving them the opportunity to continue competing while representing their school community.
Cheer
Girls in grades 4–8 encourage school spirit while building confidence, teamwork and leadership as they cheer during the boys basketball season.
Cross Country
Boys and girls in grades 6–8 develop endurance, determination and goal-setting while practicing throughout the fall and competing in regional meets.
Dance & Drum Group
Students celebrate Lakota culture through traditional dance and drumming while preparing for the annual powwow and participating in monthly gatherings at the Recreation Center.
Flag Football
Students in grades 1–3 are introduced to football fundamentals in a fun, encouraging environment through a six-week Chamberlain community league each fall.
Tackle Football
Boys in grades 7–8 build teamwork, discipline and athletic skills while practicing during the fall and competing in home and away games.
Youth Football
Boys in grades 4–6 continue developing football skills through fall practices and weekend jamborees that emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
Gymnastics
Girls in grades 1–6 improve strength, flexibility and coordination while building confidence through practices and an end-of-season performance.
Gymnastics Camp
Each spring, girls in grades 3–6 have the opportunity to further develop their gymnastics skills by attending a three-week camp at Chamberlain High School.
Sacred Hoops – Boys
Boys in grades 3–8 strengthen basketball fundamentals and teamwork through this six-week winter program focused on skill development and positive competition.
Sacred Hoops – Girls
Girls in grades 3–8 build confidence, teamwork and basketball skills during this four-week winter program.
Softball
Each spring, students have the opportunity to develop softball fundamentals, work together as teammates and enjoy friendly competition through campus leagues.
T-Ball
Students in grades 1–3 are introduced to baseball and softball fundamentals in a fun, supportive setting that encourages teamwork and active play.
Track
Boys and girls in grades 6–8 develop speed, endurance and determination while practicing throughout the spring and competing in meets at local schools.
Traditional Lakota Archery
Students explore the cultural significance of archery through traditional Lakota teachings. Developed in partnership with Lakota elder Joseph Marshall III, this program combines hands-on practice with lessons about the history and traditions of the Plains tribes.
Volleyball
Girls in grades 6–8 build communication, teamwork and volleyball skills while practicing during the fall and competing in home and away matches.
Wrestling
Boys in grades 1–8 develop strength, discipline and perseverance while learning wrestling techniques and competing in end-of-season matches.
