Summary of Position

 


The Residential Training Specialist supports the training program for Residential Staff by assisting in the
instruction and development of houseparents. This position collaborates closely with the Lead Residential
Trainer to implement and evaluate training curricula. The Specialist plays an essential role in promoting
ongoing professional development and supporting the operational needs of Residential Staff. Evening and
weekend hours are required. This is a non-exempt, year-round position.

Core Responsibilities


• Supports and models the Catholic mission and Native American culture that are the foundations of St.
Joseph’s Indian School.
• Empowers residential staff to promote a reclaiming environment for students through the Circle of
Courage principles of Belonging, Generosity, Mastery, and Independence.


Responsibilities


1. Assists the Lead Residential Trainer in delivering a comprehensive, multimodal training program for
Residential Staff, ensuring alignment with Council on Accreditation standards.
2. Assists the Lead Residential Trainer in facilitating New Staff Orientation and All Staff Orientation,
including delivering key training programs such as Crisis Prevention Intervention, Life Space Crisis
Intervention, and Love & Logic.
3. Observes, evaluates, and provides feedback on staff performance through written assessments,
documenting progress and achievement.
4. Provides on-the-job coaching and mentorship to support the ongoing professional development of
houseparents.
5. Maintains accurate training records and documentation, ensuring compliance with organizational
policies and accreditation requirements.
6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with houseparents, Residential Administration, and
other training staff to promote team dynamics.
7. Assists in identifying staff training needs by gathering input and making recommendations to enhance
the training program.
8. Participates in evening and weekend on-call rotations as part of the residential on-call team, including
providing break home coverage and assisting with transportation duties as needed.
9. Demonstrates flexibility and dependability by adjusting to changing needs and assisting with various
tasks as guided by the Lead Residential Trainer.
10. Provides support to residential staff using best practice response procedures as directed and other
duties as required.


Qualifications


• Residential experience required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Strong computer, communication, and public speaking skills.
• Ability to obtain relevant childcare certifications.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and energetic.
• Interest in learning and engaging with Native American culture.
• Ability to effectively communicate the mission of St. Joseph’s Indian School.


Physical Demands


• Prolonged Repetitive use of hands and wrists.
• Driving is required.
• Standing for extended periods may be necessary for supervision.


Expectations of Hours Worked


This position requires a flexible 40-hour work week, typically Monday through Thursday. Evening and weekend
availability may be needed for evaluations, observations, and participation in on-call rotations.
