New Exhibit at Aktá Lakota Museum Highlights “Voices of the Plains”
The Aktá Lakota Museum & Cultural Center opens Voices of the Plains, a new exhibition drawn from the museum’s permanent collection, curated by David A. Meyer II.
Showcasing a diverse group of artists connected to the Northern Plains, Voices of the Plains highlights the richness and vitality of Native expression across generations, styles, and media. The artworks reflect both the resilience of tradition and the innovation of emerging voices.
“This exhibition celebrates the talent and vision of Native artists and also reaffirms our mission to preserve and share the stories of the Northern Plains people,” said Dixie Thompson, Director of the Aktá Lakota Museum. “Voices of the Plains offers visitors an opportunity to experience the evolving narratives that continue to shape Native culture today.”
In addition to highlighting individual works of art, the exhibition provides insight into the museum’s growing collection and its ongoing commitment to support Northern Plains artists. Visitors will see how art bridges generations—honoring the past while embracing new interpretations that carry culture forward. The exhibit will be on display through December 2025.
The Aktá Lakota Museum & Cultural Center was established in 1991 and is an educational outreach program of St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D. Visit http://aktalakota.stjo.org to find additional information.
