Summary of Position

The Residential Transition Coordinator acts as the primary liaison between the public high school and campus to ensure student academic success and seamless transitions between educational environments. Responsibilities include overseeing student transition programs, coordinating special services meetings, managing the Learning Center, and facilitating academic support initiatives. Additional duties include supervising the 8th grade and student travel program selection processes and the Senior Program. This is a year-round, exempt position, requiring a flexible schedule, including evenings and on-call availability.

Core Responsibilities

  • Supports and models the Catholic Mission and the Native American Culture that are the foundations of St. Joseph’s Indian School.
  • Empowers staff to be able to promote a reclaiming environment for all students through the Circle of Courage.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Directly supervises and evaluates transition staff, learning center personnel, and Child Care Staff in Senior homes and/or programming. Performs usual and customary staffing functions including: hiring new personnel, assigning staff to homes, ensuring a Reclaiming Environment is maintained within each area, and conducting performance evaluations with established goals/targets.

 

  1. Manages student transitions, selection processes, and job corps responsibilities, and maintains program documentation and handbooks, while coordinating schedules, events, and appointments between the residential program and the public school.

 

  1. Oversees the Senior Home and Senior Program by supporting college/career readiness and employment preparation. Monitors graduation progress and academic performance for Performance Quality Control (PQI), while collaborating with Residential Coordinator and Transition Specialist.

 

  1. Serves as a liaison between the public school administration and SJIS campus departments, attend IEP and 504 Plan meetings to ensure compliance and student support, and assist with parent-teacher conferences, case service plans, and Native American Club coordination.

 

  1. Coordinates the Learning Center, overseeing tutoring resources and academic interventions, and monitor student grades, tutoring needs, and academic incentives.

 

  1. Collaborates with Residential Trainers and Coordinators to prepare for new staff orientation and student orientation annually.

 

  1. Actively engages with both St. Joe’s and CHS staff, families, and homes; attends some CHS and campus school events; and visits the public school as needed.

 

  1. Participates in the residential on-call team, including after-hours and weekend responsibilities.

 

  1. Assists in transportation and the coordination and supervision of Break Homes.

 

  1. Reports any case of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse immediately to the proper authorities.

 

  1. Performs additional duties as assigned by the 7th-12th Residential Director.

 

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree preferred
  • Experience in residential care, education, and/or related role preferred; Special education or transition program experience a plus
  • Strong organizational and Supervisory experience preferred

 

Physical Demands

  • Uses both hands and wrists repetitively for prolonged periods.
  • Driving is required.
  • Some supervision may require standing for prolonged periods.

 

Expectations of Hours Worked

At least 40 hours/week.
