Grades 3-4 are years when milestones for students are understanding cause and effect, using language to express ideas and emotions and being easily influenced by peers.
Third Grade – Jen Overweg & Melissa McDonald
Jen Overweg and Melissa McDonald are St. Joseph’s Indian School’s third-grade teachers, supporting learning in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
At this age, students become successful at their own pace. Jen and Melissa enjoy watching students grow, and the two say they laugh every day. They love the mission and the students.
In Melissa’s class, you can see her work to transform her class into a family. Jen, too, works on building relationships and making a classroom where students feel safe to be who they are.
Fourth Grade – Steve Conway & Alyssa McQuirk
Steve Conway teaches fourth-grade Reading and Social Studies, and Alyssa McQuirk instructs Math and Science. Fourth-grade students come to believe in themselves and achieve what they thought not possible.
You will see your fourth grader grow academically and socially over the course of the year. Success is doing a concept without assistance from an adult.
Steve says he works here because of the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of the children. He finds each school year to be a unique journey to enjoy. Alyssa likes that St. Joseph’s Indian School provides a total package to students, with safety and consistency going a long way in helping them achieve.
Alyssa sets high expectations and runs a very structured classroom. Steve creates an environment of hard work, collaboration, observation and perseverance.
