Summary of Position


The Seasonal Museum Associate will work unilaterally with fellow staff in assuming the general daily responsibilities of
the Museum. This position will be 20-40 hours per week within hours of museum operation: Mon-Sat 8am-6pm & Sun 9am-5pm and requires working weekends and summer/fall holidays through October. Dress code required. This is a nonexempt position.

Core Responsibilities


The primary role of the Akta Lakota Museum staff is to uphold the St. Joseph’s Indian School learning model by fostering
an appreciation for the history of the Lakota people and the vibrant arts and culture of the Lakota communities.


Responsibilities


1. Responsible for greetings visitors, conducting tours, and providing the public with general information about St.
Joseph’s Indian School and its outreach programs.
2. Assists patrons with purchases, transacts sales in the Gift Shop and controlling of cash handling procedures.
3. Expected to gain reasonable knowledge in the day-to-day duties of the museum operations.
4. Performs other responsibilities as required by the Museum Store Manager.


Qualifications


 Strong interpersonal and communication skills
 Outgoing personality necessary for public relations
 Basic computer skills preferred
 Must like working with the public


Physical Demands


 Uses both hands and wrists repetitively for prolonged periods
 Driving is required
 Some supervision may require standing for prolonged periods


Expectations of Hours Worked

  • Must be able to work weekends
  • Must be able to work museum daily hours (8am-6pm)
  • 20-40 hours within hours of museum operation: Mon-Sat 8am-6pm & Sun 9am-5pm
  • May 1st – October 31st
